7 Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets. ~Amos 3:7

ADAM GOD THINKING

BEGINS WITH

THE GREAT SECRET

I will go back to the beginning, before the world was, to show what kind of a being God is. What sort of a being was God in the beginning? Open your ears and hear, all ye ends of the earth; for I am going to prove it to you by the Bible, and to tell you the designs of God in relation to the human race, and why he interferes with the affairs of man.

God himself was once as we are now, and is an exalted Man, and sits enthroned in yonder heavens. That is the great secret. If the vail was rent to-day, and the great God who holds this world in itss orbit, and who upholds all worlds and all things by his power, was to make himself visible,--I say, if you were to see him to-day, you would see him like a man in form--like yourselves, in all the person, image, and very form as a man; for Adam was created in the very fashion, image, and likeness of God, and received instruction from, and walked, talked, and conversed with him, as one man talks and communes with another.

~Joseph Smith Jr. April 6,1844

~

Doctrine and Covenants 130:1 1 When the Savior shall appear we shall see him as he is.

We shall see that he is a man like ourselves.

Doctrine and Covenants 130:2 2 And that same sociality which exists among us here will exist among us there, only it will be coupled with eternal glory, which glory we do not now enjoy.

Doctrine and Covenants 130:22 22 The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man's; the Son also; but the Holy Ghost has not a body of flesh and bones, but is a personage of Spirit.

~

There are three additional Secrets but they will not be included in this thesis explicitly!

~

Adam God Thinking proposes that the Origin of God will be the same as the Origin of Man.

8 For it is the day of the LORD'S vengeance, and the year of recompences for the controversy of Zion. ~Isaiah 34:8

11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. ~1 Corinthians 13:11

Let there be clarity here concerning the so called "Adam-God" controversy:

The theory should be called as:

Adam-Our-God theory

Michael-Our-God theory

Our-Michael-Our-Adam-Our-God theory

because,

Our Michael is a Son of God

Our Michael was temporarily Adam

Our Michael then took up the mantle of Jehovah until Jesus

Our Michael-Jehovah then passed the mantle of Jehovah to Jesus

for Brigham Young pronounced:

Now hear it, O inhabitants of the earth, Jew and Gentile, Saint
and sinner! When our father Adam came into the garden of Eden, he
came into it with a celestial body, and brought Eve, one of his
wives, with him. He helped to make and organize this world. He is
MICHAEL, the Archangel, the ANCIENT OF DAYS! about whom holy men
have written and spoken--HE is our FATHER and our GOD, and the
only God with whom WE have to do. Every man upon the earth,
professing Christians or non-professing, must hear it, and will
know it sooner or later. They came here, organized the raw
material, and arranged in their order the herbs of the field, the
trees, the apple, the peach, the plum, the pear, and every other
fruit that is desirable and good for man; the seed was brought
from another sphere, and planted in this earth. The thistle, and
thorn, the brier, and the obnoxious weed did not appear until
after the earth was cursed. When Adam and Eve had eaten of the
forbidden fruit, their bodies became mortal from its effects, and
therefore their offspring were mortal. When the Virgin Mary
conceived the child Jesus, the Father had begotten him in his own
likeness. He was not begotten by the Holy Ghost. And who is the
Father? He is the first of the human family; and when he took a
tabernacle, it was begotten by his Father in heaven, after the
same manner as the tabernacles of Cain, Abel, and the rest of the
sons and daughters of Adam and Eve; from the fruits of the earth,
the first earthly tabernacles were originated by the Father, and
so on in succession. I could tell you much more about this; but
were I to tell you the whole truth, blasphemy would be nothing to
it, in the estimation of the superstitious and over-righteous of
mankind. However, I have told you the truth as far as I have
gone. I have heard men preach upon the divinity of Christ, and
exhaust all the wisdom they possessed. All Scripturalists, and
approved theologians who were considered exemplary for piety and
education, have undertaken to expound on this subject, in every
obliged to conclude by exclaiming "great is the mystery of
          godliness," and tell nothing.

This is called:

ενος θεου

(generated of one god)

Which means there is a beginning God but there is a lesser "Our God" namely MICHAEL "our God".

Any one who uses the term Adam-God is misinformed!

The first principle
to understanding the Adam God Theory is that our personal thinking system must be fully developed. This is both the first and the last principle to understanding the Adam God Theory.

The second principle
to understanding the Adam God Theory is that it should rather be called the Michael God Theory.

The third principle
to understanding the Adam God Theory is that Eloheim should always refer to Gods plural.

The forth principle
to understanding the Adam God Theory is that the "Trinity" and "Immaculate Conception" are not part of the Adam God Theory.

The fifth principle
to understanding the Adam God Theory is that it should be refered to as Adam Our God Theory as Adam(Michael) has a God above Him.

God himself was once as we are now,
and is an exalted man,
and sits enthroned in yonder heavens!
That is the great secret.~Joseph Smith Jr, April 7, 1844.

(Joseph Smith Jr. is a double apostle: meaning Joseph Smith Jr. is a direct personal witness of both Our Father and His Son Jesus Christ born of Mary.)

Consequently every earth has its redeemer,
and every earth has its tempter;
and every earth,
and the people thereof,
in their turn and time,
receive all that we receive,
and pass through all the ordeals
that we are passing through. ~Brigham Young, July 10 1870

Moses 6:22 22 And this is the genealogy of the sons of Adam, who was the son of God, with whom God, himself, conversed.

Doctrine and Covenants 121:32 32 According to that which was ordained in the midst of the Council of the Eternal God of all other gods before this world was,
that should be reserved unto the finishing and the end thereof, when every man shall enter into his eternal presence and into his immortal rest.

(One GOD who is Eternal God of all other gods.)

Moses 1:33 33 And worlds without number have I created; and I also created them for mine own purpose; and by the Son I created them, which is mine Only Begotten.

(Many worlds each like Earth.)

Moses 1:34 34 And the first man of all men have I called Adam, which is many.

(Many Adams one for each Earth.)

Moses 4:26 26 And Adam called his wife's name Eve, because she was the mother of all living; for thus have I, the Lord God, called the first of all women, which are many.

(Many Eves but one for each Earth.)

(The GOD of all gods will speak through all other gods even through Our God.)

(Brigham never declared Adam as GOD.)

(Brigham said Our Michael who is Adam is Our God! The other gods are angels of the GOD; therefor they are Michaels.)

The sixth principle
to understanding the Adam God Theory is that our personal thinking system must be fully developed. This is both the last and the first principle to understanding the Adam God Theory.

Heavenly Perspective: Our God is a MICHAEL. Earthly Perspective: Our God is a member of the ELOHEIM.

Joseph Smith said that he would not worship a god who does not have a father.

A god, which can not make one like himself, is not all powerful.

QUESTION:

The Blind Men and the Elephant John Godfrey Saxe (1816-1887)

It was six men of Indostan To learning much inclined, Who went to see the Elephant (Though all of them were blind), That each by observation Might satisfy his mind.

The First approached the Elephant, And happening to fall Against his broad and sturdy side, At once began to bawl: "God bless me! but the Elephant Is very like a WALL!"

The Second, feeling of the tusk, Cried, "Ho, what have we here, So very round and smooth and sharp? To me 'tis mighty clear This wonder of an Elephant Is very like a SPEAR!"

The Third approached the animal, And happening to take The squirming trunk within his hands, Thus boldly up and spake: "I see," quoth he, "the Elephant Is very like a SNAKE!"

The Fourth reached out an eager hand, And felt about the knee "What most this wondrous beast is like Is mighty plain," quoth he: "'Tis clear enough the Elephant Is very like a TREE!"

The Fifth, who chanced to touch the ear, Said: "E'en the blindest man Can tell what this resembles most; Deny the fact who can, This marvel of an Elephant Is very like a FAN!"

The Sixth no sooner had begun About the beast to grope, Than seizing on the swinging tail That fell within his scope, "I see," quoth he, "the Elephant Is very like a ROPE!"

And so these men of Indostan Disputed loud and long, Each in his own opinion (...guess...) Exceeding stiff and strong, Though each was partly in the right, And all were in the wrong!

14. PREAMBLE TO THIS TREATISE:

"I think; therefore I am." ~Rene Descartes

(I am is one of the names of God.)

What and how you think about God or yourself will inform your "thinking system!"

All religion and all beliefs concerning religion can form a "thinking system" as it can shape and direct our thoughts.

What and how you think about God or yourself will either improve your thinking or disprove your thinking!

This is an example of the "system of thinking" or "thinking system" of Brigham Young, or how to think like Brigham Young!

I wish the few remarks which I may now make to be comprehensive and instructive.

The subject upon which Brother Wells has spoken this afternoon is a very intricate one to define. It is very difficult to convey even the ideas which we may have respecting the operations of, to us, invisible spirits upon the hearts of the children of men; and it is very difficult to frame in the mind a system of thinking and reasoning upon this subject that is at all satisfactory. It is very difficult to form in the mind an even, and unbroken, and correct thread of ideas which will truthfully and satisfactorily explain the variations which we see in the motives and actions of mankind, and to understand the varied motives and feelings of the people, and what they design in performing such and such acts. There are some who have a correct and clear thread of ideas framed in their minds relating to this subject, but cannot convey them to their fellow-beings. This is a weakness that I believe is inherent to a greater or less degree in each and every one of us.

The opposition which we find in the hearts of the children of men to the Gospel of life and salvation, Brother Wells has been setting before us this afternoon in a very able manner. Upon this subject I have my own reflections, and my own way of revealing those reflections to others.

~ Remarks by President Brigham Young, made in the Tabernacle, Great Salt Lake City, June 3, 1866. Reported by G. D. Watt. Page: 234 Journal of Discourses

13. PREFACE TO THE ELEMENTS OF THE "CONTROVERSY" or irony:

How will the SOONERS teach the LATERS? What will the LATERS teach the SOONERS? What is the responsibility of the LATERS and SOONERS to be able to work with each other? This brings up the following question and answer:

Let the SOONERS be patient with the LATERS and let the LATERS be diligent.

FURTHER, WHAT IF THE LEADERS WHO HAVE DISAGREED WITH BRIGHAM YOUNG'S

THE ADAM GOD THEORY MAY NOT BE A CONTROVERSIAL SUBJECT, IF YOUR THINKING IS SELF-TRAINED PROPERLY, OR LET NOT ORTHODOX TRUTH BE AT WAR WITH UNORTHODOX TRUTH, OR LET NOT YOUR DEDUCTIVE THINKING BE IN CONFLICT AGAINST YOUR INDUCTIVE THINKING! PRAYER IS A FORM OF THINKING. SHOULD NOT WE PRAY ABOUT OUR LEADERS WORDS?

We talk to the Latter-day Saints a great deal, and we wish them to become a thinking people, a people that will reflect and begin to systematize their lives, and know the object of their existence here. This life is as precious and valuable as any life every possessed, or that ever will be possessed by any intelligent being, and hence the necessity and propriety of understanding its object and using it to the best advantage in every respect, and of understanding principle in all things.

12. THE BASIS OF THE CONTROVERSY:

NOTIFICATION FOR THOSE WHO SEE CONTROVERSY OR IRONY:

CONTROVERSY IS NECESSARY TO MATURE AND NURTURE YOUR PERSONAL THINKING SYSTEM

For as he thinketh(Hebrew: imagines) in his heart(Hebrew: soul/spirit), so is he: ~Proverbs 23:7

. . .

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: ~Hosea 4:6 6

. . .

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. ~Proverbs 4:7

. . .

But to be learned is good if they hearken unto the counsels of God.~2 Nephi 9:29

. . .

These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you.
But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you:
but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. ~1 John 2:26-27

. . .

Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

Ye shall know them by their fruits.

Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

~Jesus Sermon on the Mount

THEORY COMING FROM A THINKING SYSTEM:

Before you can understand the kingdom of God, you must first understand the law of the Gospel.

Before you can understand the law of the Gospel, you must first understand the doctrine.

Before you can understand the doctrine, you must first understand the principles.

Before you can understand the principles, you must first understand the theory.

Before you can understand the theory, you must first understand your thinking.

Before you can understand your thinking, you must first understand thinking systems.

9. Introduction to the Adam God Theory as a Thinking System

In the beginning, the head of the Gods called a council of the Gods; and they came together and concocted [prepared] a plan to create the world and people it. When we begin to learn this way, we begin to learn the only true God, and what kind of a being we have got to worship. Having a knowledge of God, we begin to know how to approach Him, and how to ask so as to receive an answer. When we understand the character of God, and know how to come to Him, he begins to unfold the heavens to us, and to tell us all about it. When we are ready to come to him, he is ready to come to us.

A sermon delivered by President Brigham Young, in the Tabernacle,
Great Salt Lake City, April 9, 1852.
          Page 46
It is my intention to preach several discourses this evening, but
how many I do not know.

I will in the first place bear testimony to the truth of many
remarks made by brother Hunter, and especially his exhortation to
the Seventies and Elders, and those men who wish to go on
missions. I wish also to urge the necessity of your proceeding on
your missions immediately, and of going to the place of your
destination full of the Holy Ghost, preaching righteousness to
the people; and while you do this, live up to the principles you
preach, that you may teach also by your example, as well as by
precept. Go, ye Elders, and now consider yourselves from this
time forth missionaries. If the Gospel is in you like a flaming
fire, to be poured upon the people, gather your neighbors
together, and give your brethren an invitation to your house, and
set before them the duties of man; and preach, if you can speak
but for five minutes, occupying that time to the best advantage.
Continue to preach, study, and learn, by faith and prayer, until
your minds and mouths are opened, and you understand most
          perfectly the love of Christ.
          Page 47
It is not uncommon for Elders to say, "If I could have a mission,
and be sent among strangers, I could speak to them, because they
have not been instructed in the way of life and salvation: I
could lay before them the principles of the Gospel, which have
been taught to me, without that difference of feeling, and fear,
which I experience while speaking to my brethren." It is very
true that the first principles of the Gospel taught by the Elders
of this Church are easy to be understood, compared with what it
is to preach them to our families, or to our neighborhood, and to
govern and control ourselves by the principles of righteousness
which the Gospel inculcates. Again, to gather the Saints, to
preach the Gospel to the world, and convince them of the truth,
are much easier tasks than to convince men that you can master
yourself, and practise the moral principles inculcated by your
religion. That is a small portion of the duty required of you in
order to obtain crowns of glory, immortality, and eternal lives.
I will here remark, that it is natural for the people to desire
to know a great deal of the MYSTERIES; this, however, is not
universally the case, though it is so with a great many of the
Elders of Israel. I do not suppose it will apply to those who
compose this congregation; your object in being here this evening
is not to hear some great mystery of the Kingdom, which you never
understood before. The greatest mystery a man ever learned, is to
know how to control the human mind, and bring every faculty and
power of the same in subjection to Jesus Christ; this is the
greatest mystery we have to learn while in these tabernacles of
clay. It is more necessary for the Elders to learn and practise
upon this lesson in the midst of the Saints at head quarters than
in the world; for their facilities for learning are much greater,
and I will tell you wherein. Let a Bishop, a High Priest, a
President of any Stake or Quorum, any who are Elders in Israel,
or any individual Saint from the first to the last of them, fall
into error, and it is at once made manifest; he cannot pursue
that course any further, for he is where lie can learn his
duties, and know how to walk straight in the paths of
righteousness. Here is the place for you to teach great mysteries
to your brethren, because here are those who can correct you.
This fault the Elders of Israel do not fall into in this
Tabernacle, although they may in private houses and
neighborhoods. When a man is capable of correcting you, and of
giving you light, and true doctrine, do not get up an
altercation, but submit to be taught like little children, and
strive with all your might to understand. The privileges of those
who dwell here are greater than the privileges of those who are
abroad. When your duties call you into foreign lands, and you
there exhaust your stock of knowledge and wisdom, and you are not
in possession of the keys to obtain that instruction which you
desire, it is because you are far from the right fountain--far
from the body, where all the members are in lively
operation--where the eye can see, the ear hear, the nose smell,
and the mouth speak, and so forth. When your face is turned from
the body, let mysteries alone, for this is the only place for you
          to be corrected if wrong. Preach the simple, unadorned truth;
work out your salvation with diligence, and do that which will
guarantee you a warranted deed, an undeniable title to eternal
          lives.

If you feel prayer in you, pray; and if you feel the spirit of
preaching in you, preach; call in your brethren, and read the
Bible, the Book of Mormon, the Book of Covenants, and the other
revelations of God to them; and talk over the things contained in
          those books, and deal them out to your brethren and neighbors;
pray with them, and teach them how to control themselves; and let
your teachings be sustained by your own example. Teach your
families how to control themselves; teach them good and wholesome
doctrine, and practise the same in your own lives. This is the
place for you to become polished shafts in the quiver of the
Almighty. This will answer for one sermon.

I feel much inclined to talk to the brethren: I have not had the
privilege of preaching much for some time, because of the
inconvenience of our former meeting place. Now, as we have a
good, convenient place to meet in, and my health will serve me, I
expect to improve the time. I love to preach at home with the
Saints. I love to meet with them, and look up on their happy
countenances, lit up with the joys of eternity. In short. I love
the society of all good men, and to preach salvation to them.
          Page 48
          You may consider what I shall now lay before you a small matter;
but I think it of some importance. When the Elders of Israel
leave this place, and go forth among the wicked, it is not their
          privilege to mingle with them in any of their worldly exercises;
for if they do, the devil will obtain an advantage over them, and
succeed in drawing them away from the path of their duty. For
instance--suppose you and I, with many more of the brethren, meet
together in a convenient place in the Valley, and dance to the
sweet strains of the violin; we could do so with a perfect good
will: but if we should be called to England, and there have an
invitation to join with the wicked in their pastimes and
recreations, and we in our feelings bow down to this, and suffer
our spirits to be subject to their commandments, we suffer
ourselves to be ruled over by them, and at once become their
servants. While I am here, I am in the midst of the Priesthood of
heaven, and in the centre of the kingdom of God. We are before
the Lord, where every hand I shake is the hand of a Saint, and
every face I see, when I look upon the assembled thousands, is
the countenance of a Saint. I am the controller and master of
affairs here, under Heaven's direction; though there are those
who do not believe this. I invite those who are not subject to me
as their President, not to contaminate my friends; for were I and
my friends to become subject to those who object to us, we are
then on the ground of the devil, and subject ourselves to him
          they serve.

Never suffer yourselves to mingle in any of those recreations
that tend to sin and iniquity, while you are away from the body
of the Church, where you cannot so fully control yourselves. Let
the Elders who are going out from this place carry this
instruction with them into the other portions of the earth.
Whatever a man does, let him do it in the name of the Lord--let
him work in the name of the Lord, let all his acts through life
be in the name of the Lord; and if he wants light and knowledge,
let him ask in that name.

You are well aware that the wickedness of the world, or the
apostacy of the Church, is so great, that those who now profess
religion cannot enjoy their own natural privileges in the world.
In many places their folly and superstition are so great that
they would consider they had committed the sin of blasphemy if
they happened to hear a violin. The whole world could not hire a
good, honest, sound Presbyterian, of the old fashion and cut, to
look into a room where a company of young men and women were
dancing, lest they should sin against the Holy Ghost. This
over-righteous notion is imbibed by the generality of professors
of religion, but it is because they themselves have made it a
sin. Let us look at the root of the matter. In the first place,
some wise being organized my system, and gave me my capacity, put
into my heart and brain something that delights, charms, and
fills me with rapture at the sound of sweet music. I did not put
it there; it was some other being. As one of the modern writers
has said, "Music hath charms to soothe the savage breast." It has
been proved that sweet music will actually tame the most
malicious and venomous beasts, even when they have been stirred
up to violent wrath, and make them docile and harmless as lambs.
Who gave the lower animals a love for those sweet sounds, which
with magic power fill the air with harmony, and cheer and comfort
the hearts of men and so wonderfully affect the brute creation?
It was the Lord, our heavenly Father, who gave the capacity to
enjoy these sounds, and which we ought to do in His name, and to
His glory. But the greater portion of the sectarian world
consider it sacrilege to give way to any such pleasure as even to
listen to sweet music, much more to dance to its delightful
strains. This is another short sermon.
          Page 49
I wish now to say a few words to the brethren upon the subject of
tithing. It is well known to the majority of this Conference what
transpired, last Conference, upon the stand in the old Bowery. At
that Conference I had good cause to find fault with the Bishops,
and I took the liberty to brush them down a little. From that day
to this there has been more accomplished by our Bishops in the
short space of seven months, than was accomplished by them for
the space of years previously. This gives me great satisfaction.
The Bishops have done as well as men could do: their conduct in
fulfilling the duties of their calling has truly been
praiseworthy, and I feel to bless them, and pray the Lord to
bless them all the day long, for they have done first rate. When
we consider the ignorance of the world, their unbelief in God,
and realize that the vail of the covering is over the face of all
nations, and remember the ignorance we were once in ourselves,
having to commence like babes at the rudiments of learning,
knowing also how faltering men are in their faith, and then look
at what this people have accomplished, we are led to exclaim, "It
is marvellous in our eyes!" Were I to say, "Elders of Israel, you
that feel to put your all upon the altar, rise upon your feet,"
who would be left? [All present rose up simultaneously.] Where is
there another people upon the earth who would have done this? I
have no tithing, but all--all I have is the Lord's. You know the
word sacrifice: as brother Banks said to-day, it is a mere
burlesque--a nonsensical term. No man ever heard me say I had
made a sacrifice. I possess nothing but what my heavenly Father
has been pleased to give me, or, in other words, He has loaned it
to me while I remain here in this mortal flesh.

Is it not marvellous, considering the weakness of man, to see the
willingness of this whole people to die if necessary for the
truth? How do you suppose it makes me feel? Though I may
sometimes chastise my brethren, and speak to them in the language
of reproof, there is not a father who feels more tenderly towards
his offspring, and loves them better than I love this people; and
my Father in Heaven loves them; my heart yearns over them with
all the emotions of tenderness, so that I could weep like a
child; but I am careful to keep my tears to myself. If you do
wrong, it grieves my heart, and it also grieves the heart of my
heavenly Father. I feel continually to urge my brethren to cease
from all evil, and learn to do well.

The fulness of the heavens and the earth is the Lord's--the gold
and the silver, the wheat, the fine flour, and the cattle upon a
thousand hills; and when we fully understand His works, we shall
know that He is in all the earth, and fulfills His will among the
children of men, exalting and debasing them according to His
pleasure; for the systems, creeds, thrones, and kingdoms of the
world are all under His control. "Shall there be evil in a city,
and the Lord hath not done it"--or that He doth not control? The
Lord controls the whole; and in the end, you will find He has
regulated all things right, for all will be consummated to His
          glory.

The children of men are made as independent in their sphere as
the Lord is in His, to prove themselves, pursue which path they
please, and choose the evil or the good. For those who love the
Lord, and do His will, all is right, and they shall be crowned,
but those who hate His ways shall be damned, for they choose to
          be damned.
          Page 50
As I was meditating on the philosophy of the day, it occurred to
my mind how visible it must appear to all eyes that the Lord does
indeed work, that it is He who blesses this people; and yet it
seems as though they cannot see His hand. The Lord fills the
immensity of space. What saith the Psalmist? "Whither shall I go
from thy Spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I
ascent up into heaven, thou art there; if I make my bed in hell,
behold thou art there; if I take the wings of the morning, and
dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there shall thy
hand lead me." I was trying to think of the place where God is
not, but it is impossible, unless you can find empty space; and
there I believe He is not. If you can find such a place, it will
become useful for a hiding place to those who wish to hide
themselves from the presence of the Lord, in the great day of
accounts. I will close this sermon, as I intend to preach another
before I present the subject I more particularly wish to speak
          upon.

My next sermon will be to both Saint and sinner. One thing has
remained a mystery in this kingdom up to this day. It is in
regard to the character of the well-beloved Son of God, upon
which subject the Elders of Israel have conflicting views. Our
God and Father in heaven, is a being of tabernacle, or, in other
words, He has a body, with parts the same as you and I have; and
is capable of showing forth His works to organized beings, as,
for instance, in the world in which we live, it is the result of
the knowledge and infinite wisdom that dwell in His organized
body. His son Jesus Christ has become a personage of tabernacle,
and has a body like his father. The Holy Ghost is the Spirit of
the Lord, and issues forth from Himself, and may properly be
called God's minister to execute His will in immensity; being
called to govern by His influence and power; but He is not a
person of tabernacle as we are, and as our Father in Heaven and
Jesus Christ are. The question has been, and is often, asked, who
it was that begat the Son of the Virgin Mary. The infidel world
have concluded that if what the Apostles wrote about his father
and mother be true, and the present marriage discipline
acknowledged by Christendom be correct, then Christians must
believe that God is the father of an illegitimate son, in the
person of Jesus Christ! The infidel fraternity teach that to
their disciples. I will tell you how it is. Our Father in Heaven
begat all the spirits that ever were, or ever will be, upon this
earth; and they were born spirits in the eternal world. Then the
Lord by His power and wisdom organized the mortal tabernacle of
man. We were made first spiritual, and afterwards temporal.

          Page 51

It is true that the earth was organized by three distinct
characters, namely, Eloheim, Yahovah, and Michael, these three
forming a quorum, as in all heavenly bodies, and in organizing
element, perfectly represented in the Deity, as Father, Son, and
          Holy Ghost.

Again, they will try to tell how the divinity of Jesus is joined
to his humanity, and exhaust all their mental faculties, and wind
up with this profound language, as describing the soul of man,
"it is an immaterial substance!" What a learned idea! Jesus, our
elder brother, was begotten in the flesh by the same character
that was in the garden of Eden, and who is our Father in Heaven.
Now, let all who may hear these doctrines, pause before they make
light of them, or treat them with indifference, for they will
          prove their salvation or damnation.

I have given you a few leading items upon this subject, but a
great deal more remains to be told. Now remember from this time
forth, and forever, that Jesus Christ was not begotten by the
Holy Ghost. I will repeat a little anecdote. I was in
conversation with a certain learned professor upon this subject,
when I replied, to this idea--"if the Son was begotten by the
Holy Ghost, it would be very dangerous to baptize and confirm
females, and give the Holy Ghost to them, lest he should beget
children, to be palmed upon the Elders by the people, bringing
          the Elders into great difficulties."

Treasure up these things in your hearts. In the Bible, you have
read the things I have told you to-night; but you have not known
what you did read. I have told you no more than you are
conversant with; but what do the people in Christendom, with the
Bible in their hands, know about this subject? Comparatively
          nothing.
          Page 52
I will now again take up the subject of tithing. The brethren
have done well. They have been willing and obedient, no people
could have been more so; for this I thank my Father in Heaven. I
could not wish a people to work more kindly in the yoke of Jesus
than this people do; the yoke grows more and more easy to them.
It seems that every man will not only pay his tithing, but give
all he has, if the Lord requires it: still I see wherein they may
do better. I asked the people to day to assist to pay our Church
liabilities. The offer of three or four yoke of oxen only, we do
not want; but I will lay before you what we wish you to do. By
the manifesto which has been read, you have learned the precise
situation of the property of the Church. What has incurred this
debt? Why does it exist in the shape in which it now appears? And
wherein could we have obviated the difficulty, and done better? A
fourth part of the money already paid out, did not come in upon
tithing. This money we have had to borrow in order to keep the
public works in progress. You may say, wherein could we have done
better, for we have paid our tithing punctually? But has that
brother, who sent $100 back to the East for merchandize, paid $10
of it into the tithing office? Or did the brother who has sent
$500 back, let us have $50? No; these have used it themselves,
and thereby involved those who bear the responsibilities of the
Trust. Again, those who have not possessed sufficient money to
send back for merchandize, have been necessitated to pay out what
they had. Thousands of dollars have been paid here for
merchandize. Has one-tenth of all that money been paid into the
tithing office? It has not. And where is the tithing that should
have come in from England and California. Instead of tithing
their money, they have used it for other purposes, and paid it in
property, with which we could not pay our debts. This is wherein
we have failed to liquidate our debts. The people go to these
Gentile stores, on the Saturday, in crowds, to purchase goods. I
think we shall not over-rate the amount, if we say that $500,000
has been paid, in these valleys, to the merchants. But suppose
they have received no more than $50,000 from this community,
$5,000 of that money ought to have been first paid into the
tithing office and we could have sent it to the States, and
purchased goods ourselves for one-third or one-half less than we
have to pay the merchants here. And $25,000 more should have come
into the tithing office from the Church in the United States. The
brethren in California have made no less than $100,000, the tenth
of which is due this tithing office. For want of this money, we
are brought into bondage; and we must now apply our faith and
works to raise means to liquidate our indebtedness, which has
accumulated by purchasing goods at high and extortionate prices.
I find no fault with the merchants, for they came here to gather
          gold by the hundred weight.

Now, brethren, and Bishops, look over this matter, and try to
think what your feelings would be if you were laid under the same
responsibility that I and my brethren have upon our shoulders. We
are required to see the Gospel preached to the nations afar off,
to build council houses and temples, to cope with the united
wisdom and craft of legislative assemblies, and with the powers
of darkness in high places; and then place yourselves in the
circumstances we are now placed in! Besides all this, see the
hundreds who come to us every day to be administered to in
various ways: some want fruit, some sugar, others tea, and all
want clothing, &c. Then step into our private rooms, where we
commune with the people, and you will see and hear all this, and
a great deal more. Instead of every man bringing his picayune, or
his six pence, or his $5, &c., as tithing on the money in his
possession, it is all used for something else, and the storehouse
of the Lord is left empty. Suppose nothing had been put in there
but what the people have put in, the workmen would have been
naked. Walk into the storehouse, and examine for yourselves. To
be sure there has been a little clothing put in lately; for
instance, there was an old silk dress put in for $40, that had
been lying for years rotting in the chest: this is a specimen of
the rest. What are such things worth to our workmen? Why, nothing
at all. We wish you to put in strong and substantial clothing.
Good, strong, homemade stuffs make the most suitable clothing for
those who are building up the public works.
          Page 53
Will you help us out of this thraldom, and have it credited to
your future tithing? There is already a great deal more due than
would liquidate all our debts, but we cannot command it now. Do
you feel willing to put your shoulder to the wheel, and continue
to roll it forward, and still continue, you that have faith to
continue, to increase in faith? for the business of this kingdom
will increase, and the responsibility also; the labor will and
must grow, and continue to increase, until the kingdoms of this
world become the kingdom of our God and His Christ. So much on
tithing; you see where the failure is; it is in that point, and
          nowhere else.

It is not for any man to think he is a cipher--that what he can
do will not tell in this matter, and say, "They will get along
well enough without me;" but it is every man's duty to lay it to
heart, and help what he can with his earthly substance; though I
wish you to understand distinctly that it is no commandment--you
          are left to act freely.

Let all the sheep stay in the Valley; also the cows; for they
will give milk and butter, and replenish the stock. But when we
speak of the horses, mules, and oxen, let every man look up his
spare stock of this description, and with them help to liquidate
these debts. Stock will now pay debts. I will use my stock for
this purpose, and my brethren will do the same, until we have
enough. I do not enjoin this upon you, as you have already paid
the tithing which is required of you; except in some instances in
the money tithing. Had we received the money due to us, we should
have had no debts; but this failure has been, and is now, in
existence. I will take every kind of spare stock I have, except
my cows and sheep, and wipe off these debts until they are
cancelled; and now every man who will do the same, let him rise
upon his feet. [The whole congregation of two thousand men rose
up to a man.] Do you suppose we want to deprive you of your
teams? It is not so, but we wished to know the state of your
faith, so that when we are ready to call upon you, we can be sure
our call will be responded to. I would not cripple any man, I
would rather give him five yoke of oxen, than destroy his team,
and you know it. [Some of the brethren in the stand, not
believing their own eyes, that the whole congregation rose, it
was tried over again, to satisfy them, when the congregation all
rose again to a man.] Brother Hunter now knows what to do. Many
of the brethren are killing their calves; don't do this; if you
cannot raise them, it will be better to give them away to those
          who can.

I bless you, and may the Lord bless you, in the name of Jesus
          Christ. Amen.

SELF-GOVERNMENT--MYSTERIES--RECREATION AND AMUSEMENT, NOT IN THEMSELVES SINFUL--TITHING--ADAM, OUR FATHER AND OUR GOD--TITHING

(Note: Introductory Sermons with Imbedded Relevance)

It is my intention to preach several discourses this evening, but how many I do not know.

(First Sermon Reformatted in Menorah Form)

I will in the first place bear testimony to the truth of many remarks made by brother Hunter, and especially his exhortation to the Seventies and Elders, and those men who wish to go on missions. I wish also to urge the necessity of your proceeding on your missions immediately, and of going to the place of your destination full of the Holy Ghost, preaching righteousness to the people; and while you do this, live up to the principles you preach, that you may teach also by your example, as well as by precept. Go, ye Elders, and now consider yourselves from this time forth missionaries. If the Gospel is in you like a flaming fire, to be poured upon the people, gather your neighbors together, and give your brethren an invitation to your house, and set before them the duties of man; and preach, if you can speak but for five minutes, occupying that time to the best advantage. Continue to preach, study, and learn, by faith and prayer, until your minds and mouths are opened, and you understand most perfectly the love of Christ.

If you feel prayer in you, pray; and if you feel the spirit of preaching in you, preach; call in your brethren, and read the Bible, the Book of Mormon, the Book of Covenants, and the other revelations of God to them; and talk over the things contained in those books, and deal them out to your brethren and neighbors; pray with them, and teach them how to control themselves; and let your teachings be sustained by your own example. Teach your families how to control themselves; teach them good and wholesome doctrine, and practise the same in your own lives. This is the place for you to become polished shafts in the quiver of the Almighty. This will answer for one sermon.

It is not uncommon for Elders to say, "If I could have a mission, and be sent among strangers, I could speak to them, because they have not been instructed in the way of life and salvation: I could lay before them the principles of the Gospel, which have been taught to me, without that difference of feeling, and fear, which I experience while speaking to my brethren." It is very true that the first principles of the Gospel taught by the Elders of this Church are easy to be understood, compared with what it is to preach them to our families, or to our neighborhood, and to govern and control ourselves by the principles of righteousness which the Gospel inculcates. Again, to gather the Saints, to preach the Gospel to the world, and convince them of the truth, are much easier tasks than to convince men that you can master yourself, and practise the moral principles inculcated by your religion. That is a small portion of the duty required of you in order to obtain crowns of glory, immortality, and eternal lives.

Let a Bishop, a High Priest, a President of any Stake or Quorum, any who are Elders in Israel, or any individual Saint from the first to the last of them, fall into error, and it is at once made manifest; he cannot pursue that course any further, for he is where lie can learn his duties, and know how to walk straight in the paths of righteousness. Here is the place for you to teach great mysteries to your brethren, because here are those who can correct you. This fault the Elders of Israel do not fall into in this Tabernacle, although they may in private houses and neighborhoods. When a man is capable of correcting you, and of giving you light, and true doctrine, do not get up an altercation, but submit to be taught like little children, and strive with all your might to understand. The privileges of those who dwell here are greater than the privileges of those who are abroad. When your duties call you into foreign lands, and you there exhaust your stock of knowledge and wisdom, and you are not in possession of the keys to obtain that instruction which you desire, it is because you are far from the right fountain--far from the body, where all the members are in lively operation--where the eye can see, the ear hear, the nose smell, and the mouth speak, and so forth. When your face is turned from the body, let mysteries alone, for this is the only place for you to be corrected if wrong. Preach the simple, unadorned truth; work out your salvation with diligence, and do that which will guarantee you a warranted deed, an undeniable title to eternal lives.

✡  I will here remark, that it is natural for the people to desire to know a great deal of the MYSTERIES; this, however, is not universally the case, though it is so with a great many of the Elders of Israel. I do not suppose it will apply to those who compose this congregation; your object in being here this evening is not to hear some great mystery of the Kingdom, which you never understood before. The greatest mystery a man ever learned, is to know how to control the human mind, and bring every faculty and power of the same in subjection to Jesus Christ; this is the greatest mystery we have to learn while in these tabernacles of clay. It is more necessary for the Elders to learn and practise upon this lesson in the midst of the Saints at head quarters than in the world; for their facilities for learning are much greater, and I will tell you wherein.

(Second Sermon Reformatted in Menorah Form)

I feel much inclined to talk to the brethren: I have not had the privilege of preaching much for some time, because of the inconvenience of our former meeting place. Now, as we have a good, convenient place to meet in, and my health will serve me, I expect to improve the time. I love to preach at home with the Saints. I love to meet with them, and look up on their happy countenances, lit up with the joys of eternity. In short. I love the society of all good men, and to preach salvation to them.

You are well aware that the wickedness of the world, or the apostacy of the Church, is so great, that those who now profess religion cannot enjoy their own natural privileges in the world. In many places their folly and superstition are so great that they would consider they had committed the sin of blasphemy if they happened to hear a violin. The whole world could not hire a good, honest, sound Presbyterian, of the old fashion and cut, to look into a room where a company of young men and women were dancing, lest they should sin against the Holy Ghost. This over-righteous notion is imbibed by the generality of professors of religion, but it is because they themselves have made it a sin. Let us look at the root of the matter. In the first place, some wise being organized my system, and gave me my capacity, put into my heart and brain something that delights, charms, and fills me with rapture at the sound of sweet music. I did not put it there; it was some other being. As one of the modern writers has said, "Music hath charms to soothe the savage breast." It has been proved that sweet music will actually tame the most malicious and venomous beasts, even when they have been stirred up to violent wrath, and make them docile and harmless as lambs. Who gave the lower animals a love for those sweet sounds, which with magic power fill the air with harmony, and cheer and comfort the hearts of men and so wonderfully affect the brute creation? It was the Lord, our heavenly Father, who gave the capacity to enjoy these sounds, and which we ought to do in His name, and to His glory. But the greater portion of the sectarian world consider it sacrilege to give way to any such pleasure as even to listen to sweet music, much more to dance to its delightful strains. This is another short sermon.

You may consider what I shall now lay before you a small matter; but I think it of some importance. When the Elders of Israel leave this place, and go forth among the wicked, it is not their privilege to mingle with them in any of their worldly exercises; for if they do, the devil will obtain an advantage over them, and succeed in drawing them away from the path of their duty. For instance--suppose you and I, with many more of the brethren, meet together in a convenient place in the Valley, and dance to the sweet strains of the violin; we could do so with a perfect good will: but if we should be called to England, and there have an invitation to join with the wicked in their pastimes and recreations, and we in our feelings bow down to this, and suffer our spirits to be subject to their commandments, we suffer ourselves to be ruled over by them, and at once become their servants.

Never suffer yourselves to mingle in any of those recreations that tend to sin and iniquity, while you are away from the body of the Church, where you cannot so fully control yourselves. Let the Elders who are going out from this place carry this instruction with them into the other portions of the earth. Whatever a man does, let him do it in the name of the Lord--let him work in the name of the Lord, let all his acts through life be in the name of the Lord; and if he wants light and knowledge, let him ask in that name.

✡  While I am here, I am in the midst of the Priesthood of heaven, and in the centre of the kingdom of God. We are before the Lord, where every hand I shake is the hand of a Saint, and every face I see, when I look upon the assembled thousands, is the countenance of a Saint. I am the controller and master of affairs here, under Heaven's direction; though there are those who do not believe this. I invite those who are not subject to me as their President, not to contaminate my friends; for were I and my friends to become subject to those who object to us, we are then on the ground of the devil, and subject ourselves to him they serve.

I bless you, and may the Lord bless you, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

(Third Sermon)

I wish now to say a few words to the brethren upon the subject of tithing. It is well known to the majority of this Conference what transpired, last Conference, upon the stand in the old Bowery. At that Conference I had good cause to find fault with the Bishops, and I took the liberty to brush them down a little. From that day to this there has been more accomplished by our Bishops in the short space of seven months, than was accomplished by them for the space of years previously. This gives me great satisfaction. The Bishops have done as well as men could do: their conduct in fulfilling the duties of their calling has truly been praiseworthy, and I feel to bless them, and pray the Lord to bless them all the day long, for they have done first rate. When we consider the ignorance of the world, their unbelief in God, and realize that the vail of the covering is over the face of all nations, and remember the ignorance we were once in ourselves, having to commence like babes at the rudiments of learning, knowing also how faltering men are in their faith, and then look at what this people have accomplished, we are led to exclaim, "It is marvellous in our eyes!" Were I to say, "Elders of Israel, you that feel to put your all upon the altar, rise upon your feet," who would be left? [All present rose up simultaneously.] Where is there another people upon the earth who would have done this? I have no tithing, but all--all I have is the Lord's. You know the word sacrifice: as brother Banks said to-day, it is a mere burlesque--a nonsensical term. No man ever heard me say I had made a sacrifice. I possess nothing but what my heavenly Father has been pleased to give me, or, in other words, He has loaned it to me while I remain here in this mortal flesh.

As I was meditating on the philosophy of the day, it occurred to my mind how visible it must appear to all eyes that the Lord does indeed work, that it is He who blesses this people; and yet it seems as though they cannot see His hand. The Lord fills the immensity of space. What saith the Psalmist? "Whither shall I go from thy Spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascent up into heaven, thou art there; if I make my bed in hell, behold thou art there; if I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there shall thy hand lead me." I was trying to think of the place where God is not, but it is impossible, unless you can find empty space; and there I believe He is not. If you can find such a place, it will become useful for a hiding place to those who wish to hide themselves from the presence of the Lord, in the great day of accounts. I will close this sermon, as I intend to preach another before I present the subject I more particularly wish to speak upon.

Is it not marvellous, considering the weakness of man, to see the willingness of this whole people to die if necessary for the truth? How do you suppose it makes me feel? Though I may sometimes chastise my brethren, and speak to them in the language of reproof, there is not a father who feels more tenderly towards his offspring, and loves them better than I love this people; and my Father in Heaven loves them; my heart yearns over them with all the emotions of tenderness, so that I could weep like a child; but I am careful to keep my tears to myself. If you do wrong, it grieves my heart, and it also grieves the heart of my heavenly Father. I feel continually to urge my brethren to cease from all evil, and learn to do well.

The children of men are made as independent in their sphere as the Lord is in His, to prove themselves, pursue which path they please, and choose the evil or the good. For those who love the Lord, and do His will, all is right, and they shall be crowned, but those who hate His ways shall be damned, for they choose to be damned.

✡  The fulness of the heavens and the earth is the Lord's--the gold and the silver, the wheat, the fine flour, and the cattle upon a thousand hills; and when we fully understand His works, we shall know that He is in all the earth, and fulfills His will among the children of men, exalting and debasing them according to His pleasure; for the systems, creeds, thrones, and kingdoms of the world are all under His control. "Shall there be evil in a city, and the Lord hath not done it"--or that He doth not control? The Lord controls the whole; and in the end, you will find He has regulated all things right, for all will be consummated to His glory.

(Third Sermon Continued)

I will now again take up the subject of tithing. The brethren have done well. They have been willing and obedient, no people could have been more so; for this I thank my Father in Heaven. I could not wish a people to work more kindly in the yoke of Jesus than this people do; the yoke grows more and more easy to them. It seems that every man will not only pay his tithing, but give all he has, if the Lord requires it: still I see wherein they may do better. I asked the people to day to assist to pay our Church liabilities. The offer of three or four yoke of oxen only, we do not want; but I will lay before you what we wish you to do. By the manifesto which has been read, you have learned the precise situation of the property of the Church. What has incurred this debt? Why does it exist in the shape in which it now appears? And wherein could we have obviated the difficulty, and done better? A fourth part of the money already paid out, did not come in upon tithing. This money we have had to borrow in order to keep the public works in progress. You may say, wherein could we have done better, for we have paid our tithing punctually? But has that brother, who sent $100 back to the East for merchandize, paid $10 of it into the tithing office? Or did the brother who has sent $500 back, let us have $50? No; these have used it themselves, and thereby involved those who bear the responsibilities of the Trust. Again, those who have not possessed sufficient money to send back for merchandize, have been necessitated to pay out what they had. Thousands of dollars have been paid here for merchandize. Has one-tenth of all that money been paid into the tithing office? It has not. And where is the tithing that should have come in from England and California. Instead of tithing their money, they have used it for other purposes, and paid it in property, with which we could not pay our debts. This is wherein we have failed to liquidate our debts. The people go to these Gentile stores, on the Saturday, in crowds, to purchase goods. I think we shall not over-rate the amount, if we say that $500,000 has been paid, in these valleys, to the merchants. But suppose they have received no more than $50,000 from this community, $5,000 of that money ought to have been first paid into the tithing office and we could have sent it to the States, and purchased goods ourselves for one-third or one-half less than we have to pay the merchants here. And $25,000 more should have come into the tithing office from the Church in the United States. The brethren in California have made no less than $100,000, the tenth of which is due this tithing office. For want of this money, we are brought into bondage; and we must now apply our faith and works to raise means to liquidate our indebtedness, which has accumulated by purchasing goods at high and extortionate prices. I find no fault with the merchants, for they came here to gather gold by the hundred weight.

Let all the sheep stay in the Valley; also the cows; for they will give milk and butter, and replenish the stock. But when we speak of the horses, mules, and oxen, let every man look up his spare stock of this description, and with them help to liquidate these debts. Stock will now pay debts. I will use my stock for this purpose, and my brethren will do the same, until we have enough. I do not enjoin this upon you, as you have already paid the tithing which is required of you; except in some instances in the money tithing. Had we received the money due to us, we should have had no debts; but this failure has been, and is now, in existence. I will take every kind of spare stock I have, except my cows and sheep, and wipe off these debts until they are cancelled; and now every man who will do the same, let him rise upon his feet. [The whole congregation of two thousand men rose up to a man.] Do you suppose we want to deprive you of your teams? It is not so, but we wished to know the state of your faith, so that when we are ready to call upon you, we can be sure our call will be responded to. I would not cripple any man, I would rather give him five yoke of oxen, than destroy his team, and you know it. [Some of the brethren in the stand, not believing their own eyes, that the whole congregation rose, it was tried over again, to satisfy them, when the congregation all rose again to a man.] Brother Hunter now knows what to do. Many of the brethren are killing their calves; don't do this; if you cannot raise them, it will be better to give them away to those who can.

Now, brethren, and Bishops, look over this matter, and try to think what your feelings would be if you were laid under the same responsibility that I and my brethren have upon our shoulders. We are required to see the Gospel preached to the nations afar off, to build council houses and temples, to cope with the united wisdom and craft of legislative assemblies, and with the powers of darkness in high places; and then place yourselves in the circumstances we are now placed in! Besides all this, see the hundreds who come to us every day to be administered to in various ways: some want fruit, some sugar, others tea, and all want clothing, &c. Then step into our private rooms, where we commune with the people, and you will see and hear all this, and a great deal more. Instead of every man bringing his picayune, or his six pence, or his $5, &c., as tithing on the money in his possession, it is all used for something else, and the storehouse of the Lord is left empty. Suppose nothing had been put in there but what the people have put in, the workmen would have been naked. Walk into the storehouse, and examine for yourselves. To be sure there has been a little clothing put in lately; for instance, there was an old silk dress put in for $40, that had been lying for years rotting in the chest: this is a specimen of the rest. What are such things worth to our workmen? Why, nothing at all. We wish you to put in strong and substantial clothing. Good, strong, homemade stuffs make the most suitable clothing for those who are building up the public works.

It is not for any man to think he is a cipher--that what he can do will not tell in this matter, and say, "They will get along well enough without me;" but it is every man's duty to lay it to heart, and help what he can with his earthly substance; though I wish you to understand distinctly that it is no commandment--you are left to act freely.

✡  Will you help us out of this thraldom, and have it credited to your future tithing? There is already a great deal more due than would liquidate all our debts, but we cannot command it now. Do you feel willing to put your shoulder to the wheel, and continue to roll it forward, and still continue, you that have faith to continue, to increase in faith? for the business of this kingdom will increase, and the responsibility also; the labor will and must grow, and continue to increase, until the kingdoms of this world become the kingdom of our God and His Christ. So much on tithing; you see where the failure is; it is in that point, and nowhere else.

Treasure up these things in your hearts. In the Bible, you have read the things I have told you to-night; but you have not known what you did read. I have told you no more than you are conversant with; but what do the people in Christendom, with the Bible in their hands, know about this subject? Comparatively nothing.

One thing has remained a mystery in this kingdom up to this day.

I have given you a few leading items upon this subject, but a great deal more remains to be told. Now remember from this time forth, and forever, that Jesus Christ was not begotten by the Holy Ghost. I will repeat a little anecdote. I was in conversation with a certain learned professor upon this subject, when I replied, to this idea--"if the Son was begotten by the Holy Ghost, it would be very dangerous to baptize and confirm females, and give the Holy Ghost to them, lest he should beget children, to be palmed upon the Elders by the people, bringing the Elders into great difficulties."

It is in regard to the character of the well-beloved Son of God, upon which subject the Elders of Israel have conflicting views.

Again, they will try to tell how the divinity of Jesus is joined to his humanity, and exhaust all their mental faculties, and wind up with this profound language, as describing the soul of man, "it is an immaterial substance!" What a learned idea! Jesus, our elder brother, was begotten in the flesh by the same character that was in the garden of Eden, and who is our Father in Heaven. Now, let all who may hear these doctrines, pause before they make light of them, or treat them with indifference, for they will prove their salvation or damnation.

Our God and Father in heaven, is a being of tabernacle, or, in other words, He has a body, with parts the same as you and I have; and is capable of showing forth His works to organized beings, as, for instance, in the world in which we live, it is the result of the knowledge and infinite wisdom that dwell in His organized body. His son Jesus Christ has become a personage of tabernacle, and has a body like his father. The Holy Ghost is the Spirit of the Lord, and issues forth from Himself, and may properly be called God's minister to execute His will in immensity; being called to govern by His influence and power; but He is not a person of tabernacle as we are, and as our Father in Heaven and Jesus Christ are.

It is true that the earth was organized by three distinct characters, namely, Eloheim, Yahovah, and Michael, these three forming a quorum, as in all heavenly bodies, and in organizing element, perfectly represented in the Deity, as Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

The question has been, and is often, asked, who it was that begat the Son of the Virgin Mary. The infidel world have concluded that if what the Apostles wrote about his father and mother be true, and the present marriage discipline acknowledged by Christendom be correct, then Christians must believe that God is the father of an illegitimate son, in the person of Jesus Christ! The infidel fraternity teach that to their disciples.

I have heard men preach upon the divinity of Christ, and exhaust all the wisdom they possessed. All Scripturalists, and approved theologians who were considered exemplary for piety and education, have undertaken to expound on this subject, in every obliged to conclude by exclaiming "great is the mystery of godliness," and tell nothing.

I will tell you how it is.

I could tell you much more about this; but were I to tell you the whole truth, blasphemy would be nothing to it, in the estimation of the superstitious and over-righteous of mankind. However, I have told you the truth as far as I have gone.

Our Father in Heaven begat all the spirits that ever were, or ever will be, upon this earth; and they were born spirits in the eternal world. Then the Lord by His power and wisdom organized the mortal tabernacle of man. We were made first spiritual, and afterwards temporal.

They came here, organized the raw material, and arranged in their order the herbs of the field, the trees, the apple, the peach, the plum, the pear, and every other fruit that is desirable and good for man; the seed was brought from another sphere, and planted in this earth. The thistle, and thorn, the brier, and the obnoxious weed did not appear until after the earth was cursed. When Adam and Eve had eaten of the forbidden fruit, their bodies became mortal from its effects, and therefore their offspring were mortal. When the Virgin Mary conceived the child Jesus, the Father had begotten him in his own likeness. He was not begotten by the Holy Ghost. And who is the Father? He is the first of the human family; and when he took a tabernacle, it was begotten by his Father in heaven, after the same manner as the tabernacles of Cain, Abel, and the rest of the sons and daughters of Adam and Eve; from the fruits of the earth, the first earthly tabernacles were originated by the Father, and so on in succession.

✡
  • Now hear it, O inhabitants of the earth, Jew and Gentile, Saint and sinner!
    • When our father Adam came into the garden of Eden, he came into it with a celestial body, and brought Eve, one of his wives, with him. He helped to make and organize this world.
    • He is MICHAEL, the Archangel, the ANCIENT OF DAYS! about whom holy men have written and spoken--HE is our FATHER and our GOD, and the only God with whom WE have to do.
  • Every man upon the earth, professing Christians or non-professing, must hear it, and will know it sooner or later.

Alma 12:35 35 And whosoever will harden his heart and will do iniquity, behold, I swear in my wrath that he shall not enter into my rest.

Last sermon of Joseph Smith Jr. June 16, 1844

Part of the address

. . .

I will preach on the plurality of the Gods. I have selected this text for that express purpose. I wish to declare I have always and in all congregations when I have preached on the subject of the Deity. It has been the plurality of Gods. It has been preached by the Elders for fifteen years.

. . .

In the very beginning the Bible shows there is a plurality of Gods beyond the power of refutation. It is a great subject I am dwelling on. The word Eloheim ought to be in the plural all the way through--Gods. The heads of the Gods appointed one God for us; and when you take [that] view of the subject, it sets one free to see all the beauty, holiness and perfection of the Gods. All I want is to get the simple, naked truth, and the whole truth.

. . .

Taken from the last sermon of Joseph Smith Jr. 11 days before his death.

Eloheim declared to mean Gods in plural

Pres. Wilford Woodruff; General Conference address of April, 1895.

Part of the address

. . . .

Before I sit down I want to say a word to the Elders of Israel on another subject. I am called an old man. I guess I am. I was thinking just now, in speaking of the Apostles and Prophets that were with Joseph Smith when he made his last speech. I am the only man living that was with him at that time. The rest are to-day in the spirit world. How much longer I shall talk to this people I do not know; but I want to say this to all Israel: Cease troubling yourselves about who God is; who Adam is, who Christ is, who Jehovah is. For heaven's sake, let these things alone. Why trouble yourselves about these things? God has revealed Himself, and when the 121st section of the Doctrine and Covenants is fulfilled, whether there be one God or many gods they will be revealed to the children of men, as well as all thrones and dominions, principalities, and powers. Then why trouble yourselves about these things? God is God. Christ is Christ. The Holy Ghost is the Holy Ghost. That should be enough for you and me to know. If we want to know any more, wait till we get where God is in person. I say this because we are troubled every little while with inquiries from Elders anxious to know who God is, who Christ is, and who Adam is. I say to the Elders of Israel, stop this. Humble yourselves before the Lord; seek for light, for truth, and for a knowledge of the common things of the kingdom of God. The Lord is the same yesterday, to-day, and forever. He changes not. The Son of God is the same. He is the Savior of the world. He is our advocate with the Father. We have had letter after letter from Elders abroad wanting to know concerning these things. Adam is the first man. He was placed in the Garden of Eden, and is our great progenitor. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost, are the same yesterday, to-day and forever. That should be sufficient for us to know.

I pray god to bless these Apostles, and to bless us all, and to give us wisdom and power to magnify our calling and to do our duty before the Lord, that we may be prepared to give an account of our stewardship while dwelling in the flesh. I pray that the lord will be merciful to us as a people and give those who bear the priesthood power to build up Zion and prepare the way for the coming of the Son of Man, which may God grant, for Christ's sake. Amen.

Eloheim sufficient for us to mean God

In the early 1900s, some discussion arose among Church members about the roles of God the Father and Jesus Christ. The First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles issued the following in 1916 to clarify the meaning of certain scriptures where Jesus Christ, or Jehovah, is designated as the Father. It is thought that a printing of this statement will be helpful to members as they study the Old Testament this year. ~Doctrinal Exposition 1916

Scriptures embodying the ordinary signification-literally that of Parent-are too numerous and specific to require citation. The purport of these scriptures is to the effect that God the Eternal Father, whom we designate by the exalted name-title “Elohim,” is the literal Parent of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and of the spirits of the human race. Elohim is the Father in every sense in which Jesus Christ is so designated, and distinctively He is the Father of spirits. Thus we read in the Epistle to the Hebrews: “Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?” (Heb. 12:9). In view of this fact we are taught by Jesus Christ to pray: “Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name” (Matt. 6:9). ~Doctrinal Exposition 1916

"Church under Brigham Young"

. . . How many earths are there? I observed this morning that you may take the particles of matter composing this earth, and if they could be enumerated they would only be a beginning to the number of the creations of God; and they are continually coming into existence, and undergoing changes and passing through the same experience that we are passing through. Sin is upon every earth that ever was created, and if it was not so, I would like some philosophers to let us know how people can be exalted to become sons of God, and enjoy a fulness of glory with the Redeemer. Consequently every earth has its redeemer, and every earth has its tempter; and every earth, and the people thereof, in their turn and time, receive all that we receive, and pass through all the ordeals that we are passing through. Is this easy to understand? It is perfectly easy to me; . . .

Moses 1:27-42 27 And it came to pass, as the voice was still speaking, Moses cast his eyes and beheld the earth, yea, even all of it; and there was not a particle of it which he did not behold, discerning it by the spirit of God. 28 And he beheld also the inhabitants thereof, and there was not a soul which he beheld not; and he discerned them by the Spirit of God; and their numbers were great, even numberless as the sand upon the sea shore. 29 And he beheld many lands; and each land was called earth, and there were inhabitants on the face thereof. 30 And it came to pass that Moses called upon God, saying: Tell me, I pray thee, why these things are so, and by what thou madest them? 31 And behold, the glory of the Lord was upon Moses, so that Moses stood in the presence of God, and talked with him face to face. And the Lord God said unto Moses: For mine own purpose have I made these things. Here is wisdom and it remaineth in me. 32 And by the word of my power, have I created them, which is mine Only Begotten Son, who is full of grace and truth. 33 And worlds without number have I created; and I also created them for mine own purpose; and by the Son I created them, which is mine Only Begotten. 34 And the first man of all men have I called Adam, which is many. 35 But only an account of this earth, and the inhabitants thereof, give I unto you. For behold, there are many worlds that have passed away by the word of my power. And there are many that now stand, and innumerable are they unto man; but all things are numbered unto me, for they are mine and I know them. 36 And it came to pass that Moses spake unto the Lord, saying: Be merciful unto thy servant, O God, and tell me concerning this earth, and the inhabitants thereof, and also the heavens, and then thy servant will be content. 37 And the Lord God spake unto Moses, saying: The heavens, they are many, and they cannot be numbered unto man; but they are numbered unto me, for they are mine. 38 And as one earth shall pass away, and the heavens thereof even so shall another come; and there is no end to my works, neither to my words. 39 For behold, this is my work and my glory--to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man. 40 And now, Moses, my son, I will speak unto thee concerning this earth upon which thou standest; and thou shalt write the things which I shall speak. 41 And in a day when the children of men shall esteem my words as naught and take many of them from the book which thou shalt write, behold, I will raise up another like unto thee; and they shall be had again among the children of men--among as many as shall believe. 42 (These words were spoken unto Moses in the mount, the name of which shall not be known among the children of men. And now they are spoken unto you. Show them not unto any except them that believe. Even so. Amen.)

With Brigham Young one begins with the scriptures as:

the scriptures contain all the questions.

With Orson Pratt/Joseph F. Smith one ends with the scriptures as:

the scriptures contain all the answers.

I will tell you how it is.

"Another matter. We hope that you who teach in the various organizations, whether on the campuses or in our chapels, will always teach the orthodox truth. We warn you against the dissemination of doctrines which are not according to the scriptures and which are alleged to have been taught by some of the General Authorities of past generations. Such, for instance, is the Adam-God theory. We denounce that theory and hope that everyone will be cautioned against this and other kinds of false doctrine."
~Spencer W. Kimball November 1976

(Please Note the word orthodox is NOT found in the scriptures anywhere! Why was not the word eternal or unchanging or simple etc. used instead of orthodox?)

(Please Note the word alleged means in law: an allegation is a claim of a fact by a party in a pleading, charge, or defense. Until they can be proved, allegations remain merely assertions. Also it means to assert to be true without proving, to bring forward as ground or matter of fact in support of or in opposition to a claim or an accusation.)

(Please Note doctrine is NOT the same as theory; it is here used interchangeably!)

(Please Note "Adam-God Theory" is NOT the same as "Adam God Theory!")

(Please Note "We denounce that theory" NOT "We denounce that doctrine." )

(Please Note "false doctrine" is NOT the same as "false theory" as doctrine is for teaching models and theory is for thinking paradigms!)

(whole truth) how to teach what

(whole truth) useful truth in full context

(orthodox truth) what to teach and how

(useful truth) what to teach and how

I could tell you much more about this; but were I to tell you the whole truth, blasphemy would be nothing to it, in the estimation of the superstitious and over-righteous of mankind. However, I have told you the truth as far as I have gone.

"At the time this statement was made in the 1976 Priesthood conference, I was serving on a priesthood committee under the direction of Elder Mark E. Petersen. We were at that time working with a number of people who believed the Adam-God theory, and our committee wanted to know more precisely what President Kimball meant by his statement, so through Elder Petersen we made an appointment with him and asked him. In a private interview President Kimball made the following clarifications: He said that he did not say that President Brigham Young did not make the statements which are attributed to him, nor did he claim that they were falsely reported. Neither did he say that Brigham Young taught false doctrine. What he did say and what he meant is that the Adam-God theory is false, and the Adam-God theory is that interpretation which is placed on Brigham Young's words by present day apostates and fundamentalists - their understanding of what Brigham Young meant is false.

Considering both President Kimball's original statement and his subsequent clarification, what we need is an understanding of what Brigham Young meant by his statements which is in accordance with scripture. This is reasonable even without President Kimball's statements, because any of President Young's teachings which are not in harmony with scripture would simply be wrong anyway."

REGENT JEHOVAH and REGENT MICHAEL were brothers, beings with celestial bodies
acting for and in behalf of "Future Jehovah" and "Future Michael."
"Future Jehovah" and "Future Michael" were spirit beings without bodies.

Future Jehovah and Future Michael were brothers, spirit beings without bodies. They will inherit the name titles JEHOVAH and MICHAEL after their resurrection

MICHAEL with one his wives were brought here from another Earth like planet to this Earth with bodies to become ADAM and EVE the first man.
MICHAEL and his wife were married and sealed before coming to this Earth to the Garden of Eden.
THEY as ADAM and EVE become our common parents both spiritual and physical.

The body of Adam and the body of Eve were begotten here or "made" here on this Earth.
Adam and Eve were married and sealed here on this Earth after receiving bodies.
We are only their physical children.

ADAM became Eloheim to this Earth and His children, yet still MICHAEL to His ELOHEIM.
ELOHEIM left this Earth with MICHAEL or ADAM in charge of His children who are "future Adam(s)" and the "Future Jehovah."
"Future Jehovah" is the name by which MICHAEL speaks to His children.

Alma 12:33-34 33 But God did call on men, in the name of his Son, (this being the plan of redemption which was laid) saying: If ye will repent and harden not your hearts, then will I have mercy upon you, through mine Only Begotten Son; 34 Therefore, whosoever repenteth, and hardeneth not his heart, he shall have claim on mercy through mine Only Begotten Son, unto a remission of his sins; and these shall enter into my rest.

Jude 1:9 9 Yet Michael(MICHAEL) the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.

Adam cast out of the Garden of Eden to the world we now live.
Future Jehovah under His FATHER left in charge of this Earth.

Eloheim or MICHAEL is Father of Jesus

1 Corinthians 15:45 45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

ELOHEIM appears to be the Father of Jesus

I have told you no more than you are conversant with; but what do the people in Christendom, with the Bible in their hands, know about this subject? Comparatively nothing."

  • "Permit me to say, that I am proud of my religion. It is the only thing I pride myself in, on the earth. I may heap up gold and silver like the mountains; I may gather around me property, goods, and chattels, but I could have no glory in that, compared with my religion; it is the fountain of light and intelligence; it swallows up the truth contained in all the philosophy of the world, both heathen and Christian; it circumscribes the wisdom of man; it circumscribes all the wisdom and power of the world; it reaches to that within the veil. Its bounds, its circumference, its end, its height, and depth, are beyond the comprehension of mortals, for it has none."

  • Brigham Young could and did embrace either of both of these view(s)/point(s)/perspective(s)/concept(s) at his choice, which may explain the Bruce R. McConkie observation:

"Yes, President Young did teach that Adam was the father of our Spirits, and all the related things that the cultists ascribe to him. This, however, is not true. He expressed views that are out of harmony with the gospel. But, be it known, Brigham Young also taught accurately and correctly, the status and position of Adam in the eternal scheme of things. What I am saying is, that Brigham Young, contradicted Brigham Young, and the issue becomes one of which Brigham Young we will believe. The answer is we will believe the expressions that accord with the teachings in the standard works."

"Yes, Brigham Young did say some things about God progressing in knowledge and understanding, but again, be it known, that Brigham Young taught, emphatically and plainly, that God knows all things and has all power meaning in the infinite, eternal and ultimate and absolute sense of the word. Again, the issue is, which Brigham Young shall we believe and the answer is: We will take the one whose statements accord with what God has revealed in the Standard Works."
    ~Bruce R. McConkie

Mark 6:4-6 Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.

5 And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.

And he marvelled because of their unbelief.

It has been common practice to dismiss any saying of his of which one disapproves (and he makes no effort to please) by observing that he said so much on so many things that he was bound to contradict himself, and therefore need not be taken too seriously all the time. No view could be more ill-advised, for there never was a man more undeviatingly consistent and rational in thought and utterance. . . . Granted that Brigham would admonish the Saints to wear overcoats one day, so to speak, and the next day turn around and advise shirt-sleeves, the element of scandal and confusion vanishes if we only get the main idea, which is, that it is not the rule-book or the Administration but the weather that prescribes the proper dress for the day. All the other apparent contradictions in Brother Brigham's teachings likewise vanish when we grasp the main idea behind them." endquote

      1. If you could hie to Kolob
In the twinkling of an eye,
      And then continue onward
With that same speed to fly,
Do you think that you could ever,
      Through all eternity,
      Find out the generation
      Where Gods began to be?

      2. Or see the grand beginning,
      Where space did not extend?
      Or view the last creation,
      Where Gods and matter end?
      Methinks the Spirit whispers,
"No man has found 'pure space,'
      Nor seen the outside curtains,
      Where nothing has a place."

      3. The works of God continue,
      And worlds and lives abound;

      Have one eternal round.

Go to the Table of Contents

QUESTION:

ANSWER:

    Many reasons:

  1. First Reason
: that it is too advanced. Advanced or high/deep theory or doctrine divide the church and leadership into two camps of those who understand it and those who do not understand it. Jacob in the Book of Mormon advised that we should "prophesy to the understanding." Here is Jacob's advice, with some other's quotations:
    • Jacob 4:13 13 Behold, my brethren, he that prophesieth, let him prophesy to the understanding of men; for the Spirit speaketh the truth and lieth not.

    • 2 Nephi 33:1 1 And now I, Nephi, cannot write all the things which were taught among my people; neither am I mighty in writing, like unto speaking; for when a man speaketh by the power of the Holy Ghost the power of the Holy Ghost carrieth it unto the hearts of the children of men.

    • 2 Nephi 33:2 2 But behold, there are many that harden their hearts against the Holy Spirit, that it hath no place in them; wherefore, they cast many things away which are written and esteem them as things of naught.

    • 2 Nephi 33:3A 3A But I, Nephi, have written what I have written, and I esteem it as of great worth, and especially unto my people.

    • Matthew 13:57-58 And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house. And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

    • 1852 Sermon by Brigham Young Let a Bishop, a High Priest, a President of any Stake or Quorum, any who are Elders in Israel, or any individual Saint from the first to the last of them, fall into error, and it is at once made manifest; he cannot pursue that course any further, for he is where lie can learn his duties, and know how to walk straight in the paths of righteousness.

Understanding of men vary and hardness of heart vary, so which level of hardness and which level of understanding do you choose to address advanced theory or doctrine? Do you gather people according to their capacities to receive and thus divide the church according to their strengths and have more than one group? (Of course there is the hierarchical division between leadership and lay members, which is division enough, but we are concerned here with a deeper division of understanding of doctrine.) The scriptures says except you are one you are not mine. So now, we are in between a rock and a hard place as to selecting the level of understanding or strength to receive new or advanced doctrine. So who selects the level? Would it be a level for ease of Church management? Would it be a level to have the greatest church population? The greatest church population would mean greater donations through offerings and tithing. But Joseph said "I teach them correct principles and they govern themselves."

Now we come to a concept that is often called "dead level mormonism" which means that those who become too advance are brought down to the selected level and those new to the church and weaker saints will be brought up to that same selected level. However this may be, Brigham Young ignored the concept of "dead level mormonism" and taught big things to all. To "saints and sinners" alike; so much for dead level! This means personal pace of learning is ignored and the dead level pace is set externally, with the exception of personal study which has minimal controls and hopefully no controls. But generally you can learn all you want on your own. This in effect defeats the dead levels in actuality anyway and people are saved as persons and not as a group, as rejected in the pre-existence counsels.

The question is do you give a man a fish for one meal or do you teach a man to fish for a lifetime of meals?

  2. Second Reason: it is a thinking system and thinking can not be instructed as other principles of the gospel. 'As a man thinketh so is he' . 'For My thoughts are not your (their in Hebrew) thoughts'. If children are brought up with the idea or theory they will see that it is exquisitely simple. This thinking system will be part of their mental tools for the rest of their lives. Self-esteem is enhanced with the theory and this is a destroyer of social classes and differentiations. Thinking is seen to be restricted to those in power positions by the world where lordship is prevalent.

  3. Third Reason: it is used to identify those who would practice polygyny. It seems to be associated with this form of marriage before and after the "Manifesto(s)." Persons who were prepared for plural marriage were given additional instructions. Adam God Theory may have been one of these additional instructions. Since the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints no longer practices Patriarchal Marriage, this tradition is manifest and the church can comply with the laws of the land by removing law breakers. Therefore they, who are tenaciously holding to this view of creation, can be easily removed from the Church, if they are practicing a forbidden form of marriage. Since it explains our creation better, this method of determining offenders has serious side effect/affect, which tends to selectively dumb down the general membership overall. The correct understanding of the Adam God Theory explains why the early mormons practiced "plural marriage." Plural marriage, in most all instances, purged false Christian beliefs from the leadership of the Church consisting of new converts. Notable exceptions mentioned in the April 1852 sermon. The return to Christian "Doctrine" on the Birth of Christ and The Father of Christ prompted the 1852 Sermon in conference. The Michael/Adam pronouncement of Brigham was to thwart this return. This suggest that a future return to false Christian beliefs would be prevented by a cancelation and nullifcation of the "Manifesto". The Torah or the law of Moses permits polygyny nullifying this taboo. Or truth is truth let the light shine in every dark place. Orthodoxy creates taboo.

  4. Fourth Reason: it is strangely not Christian and it puts up walls to proselytes--difficult to talk through. It is just too strange unless explained in the "Big Picture," or with a thinking system to objectively handle it. The "Big Picture" is a Temple Concept. The "Big Picture" is portrayed by Lorenzo Snow's cuplet "As man now is, God once was, and as God now is, man may become."

  5. Fifth Reason: it weakens dogma (or counter-balances it). When Orson Pratt was teaching a dogma concerning the birth of Christ, Brigham Young introduced this view point in conference to strongly counteract the teachings of some of the Elders who were teaching a dogma to undermine original teachings. True dogma facilitates church management. False dogma undermines church teachings and management. Orson Pratt and others were trying to return to false Christian dogma.

  6. Sixth Reason Is a quote from Adam God Theory © 1986:

Perhaps herein lies the clue as to the violent reactions to this proposition as it engenders autonomy and total culpability and personal responsibility. If one were to socially engineer a people, it would be easiest to mold and shape those who believe in evolution or direct creation from material rather than those who believe in being the issue of woman, because they would be bound by the concept of their origin and resign themselves always to be the product of some other's design than their own family. However, if you tell a people they are free and have an origin and mind to prove it, they will act accordingly. It is because of the facility gained to control people efficiently that the social engineer devise artificial traditions by disturbing their roots and myths or redefining the truth of their origin and destiny. It is, therefore, absolutely crucial to freedom to know the truth of our origin that we may be free to decide our future without the machinations of the social engineers.

To know the true origin of our past is to give meaning to our present life. To foreknow the true destiny of our future is to give purpose to our present life. It is impossible to deceive a person who knows for himself who he came from, who he is, and who he shall become.

    BENEFACTIONS OF THE THEORY

It is an ill wind that blows no good. Children become completely absolved of all taint that is ascribed by Christianity to children as being born in sin. In these last days, abortion is running rampant and children are being blamed for the errors of the adults who brought them forth. If children were the issue of a God rather than an Adam who fell and sinned and was cast out to forever suffer, could inappropriate guilt be ingrained into children because of superstition and ignorance of what really is the origin of man? Could child abuse and the disparagement of children as a burden and unwanted encumbrance be tolerated if we accepted the idea that they are direct descendants of a God rather than a fallen rebel? If "Adam" was our God, then forever are our children ennobled to be the children of a god and can only be condemned and accountable for their own acts, at an age where their maturity makes them personally responsible for their own acts and not for a fallen parent. The Adam God theory elevates children to purity, and relegate adults to a more responsible and guilty position, which probably is why it is so violently rejected.

A great deal of study is needed to further explore the reasons this idea has met with such varied and positive emotional mind sets. However, there are not enough persons who now know enough about this version or view of the gospel to make satisfactory comparison studies. The strict taboo and suspicions of apostasy that are engendered by the adherents or detractors also further exacerbate the problem. It is too bad that it cannot be open to study so that our past can be more readily understood--and our future.

    Endquote

  7. Seventh Reason: a misunderstanding of the first commandment of the Ten Commandments:
( א לא יהיה לך אלהים אחרים על פני )

which says literally "You shall not have to you gods of other peoples before my face." It does not say you shall not have gods after my face or behind me. Joseph Smith said that he would not worship a god who does not have a father. The first commandment thus being misunderstood, many will not consider that they are part of the family of heaven. But we are the children of Heavenly Father who is the Father of Jesus.

Adam is a God the Father of us and a Son of GOD THE FATHER of all.

Moses 6:68 68 Behold, thou art one in me, a son of God; and thus may all become my sons.

  8. Eighth Reason: it is peculiar and not mainstream, lacking traditional background history.

  9. Ninth Reason - Orthodoxy requires teaching the basics first. -

  10. Tenth Reason - The knowledge is lost - to some.

"Paul says there are Gods many and Lords many, I want to set forth in a plain and simple manner; but to us there is but one God--that is pertaining to us; and he is in all and through all. But if Joseph Smith says there are Gods many and Lords many, they cry, "Away with him! Crucify him!" Mankind verily say that the Scriptures are with them. Search the Scriptures, for they testify of things that these apostates would gravely pronounce blasphemy. Paul, if Joseph Smith is a blasphemer, you are. I say there are Gods many and Lords many, but us only one, and we are to be in subjection to that one, and no man can limit the bounds or the eternal existence of eternal time. Hath he beheld the eternal world, and is he authorized to say that, "there is only one God?" He makes himself a fool if he thinks or says so, and there is an end of his career or progress in knowledge. He cannot obtain all knowledge, for he has sealed up the gate to it. Some say I do not interpret the Scripture the same as they do. They say it means the heathen's gods. Paul says there are Gods many and Lords many; and that makes a plurality of Gods, in spite of the whims of all men. Without a revelation, I am not going to give them the knowledge of the God of heaven. You know and I testify that Paul had no allusion to the heathen gods. I have it from God, and get over it if you can. I have a witness of the Holy Ghost, and a testimony that Paul had no allusion to the heathen gods in the text."

Volume 6 Journal of Discourses Brigham Young proclaims Common Father the Father of Jesus

Volume 10 Journal of Discourses Brigham Young proclaims Common Father the Father of Jesus

What differs concerning the common father is the identity of the common Father; though, in both versions there is the concept of "common Father."

We must see all in frozen frame at times; and also, we must see all in motion like a movie during other times. This is how we think or this is how we should think. This is how we synthesize and analyze. If you analyze this view of God only, you will experience cognitive dissonance till one can also synthesize.

Proxy work is the means by which these two views can be married together and/or viewed together at once for full mental development. (DMP) * see below

The tri-perspective third component is that we are Adam or a Michael ourselves, or ones to "become such," The Corpus Callosum of thinking, if we learn to THINK as in the following mystery:

REPEATING AGAIN Brigham Young:

"The greatest mystery a man ever learned, is to know how to control the human mind, and bring every faculty and power of the same in subjection to Jesus Christ; this is the greatest mystery we have to learn while in these tabernacles of clay."

2 Timothy 1:7-11 7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but (the spirit) of power, and (the spirit) of love, and (the spirit) of a sound mind.

8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; 9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, 10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel: 11 Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.

✡

REPEATING AGAIN: The Adam God Theory is disruptive to education that has been obtained through classic study. There is much less logical disturbance in learning it, if the learner is self-educated or self-taught. Creative thinking methods are required to understand the dual-perspective/tri-perspective thinking system embedded in the theory or doctrine as it were. Brigham Young and Joseph Smith Jr. were self-taught and self-educated to a greater degree. The principles learned through their type of self-teaching will be required to understand their point of view in this subject. Right Brain thinking is required along with Left Brain thinking. Understanding comes with the linking Corpus Callosum thinking--metaphorically speaking. Current modern education specializes in Left Brain thinking, typical of Orson Pratt/Joseph F. Smith. Education gained through formal method aside from self-teaching, setup the confounding of the mind with the Adam God Proposition, because classic formal education is externally conditioned learning.

THE MIND AS PERCEIVER

The mind is the receiver of perception, since it accepts and registers the stimuli sent by all the other senses. We can use common expressions to illustrate this: i.g. that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder," "music is in the heart," and "seeing is believing." The mind adds quality to perceptions of the sense organs. With out these additions to sensory contacts, we would be at the basic stimulus reaction of the lowest forms of life. Action would be merely reflexive.

Many of us need a place to meditate. Remember the last time the radio or the television was on in the next room, while you were trying to read or concentrate? In such a din we say, "I can't even hear my own thoughts." Thinkers, writers, and students seek a place where they are able to tune into their own thoughts.

It is common practice to avoid stimulus and perception, mostly for beneficial reasons, contributing to study habits. But what else do we block out, or shield from consciousness? Do we put out of mind other things as easily, such as the perceptions of the mind itself? Can the mind receive on its own, directly from the environment? Does a direct mental perception occur, bypassing the regular channels? Perhaps we ignore more than we realize. Can we be conscious of more than our own thoughts? Does the mind learn by direct means? Answers to these questions fairly scintillate the mind.

DUAL DEFINITION OF DMP

At this point in our discussion a conceptual idea fundamental to FUTURLOGICS a System of Prospective Thinking , must be introduced. Direct Mental Process and Direct Mind Perception, (DMP), both refer to a mental operation necessary to self-teaching and learning the future. The mind as a "perceptual organ" itself, is an idea that opens to view the world beyond the five senses. The future is intuitively known and the concept of Direct Mental Process and/or Direct Mind Perception takes on special meaning, offering answers (perhaps to easily and temptingly) we seek. However, DMP is basic to this study. (Or to researching the unknown in general. The future can be a one word metaphor for all that is to be researched or yet learned.) And DMP is a very useful tool.

DMP is a duplex acronym of both (D)irect (M)ind (P)erception and (D)irect (M)ental (P)rocess. The definition of DMP must be left purposely ambiguous to draw in simultaneously both dimensional features of mental consciousness. The rational and intuitive nature of thought are both necessary to prospective thinking. Because DMP contact with the future is left loosely defined, personal input into the subject is unavoidable. Rather than being a problem, such bias is an aid (if we keep an open mind). As we shall see, as the theory develops, DMP can only be a matter of self-discovery and intuition, after we develop insights into FUTURLOGICS .

DMP may be creativity, meditation, intuitive insight or a process yet undefined. At this point we cannot make a strict definition. The definition of DMP is a matter of continual self discovery. If we say what it IS, we also say what it IS NOT, and the mind is not left free to make its own discoveries and experiences, necessary to FUTURLOGICS and to self-teaching. It is offered as a temporary concession that, since we now know that a future exists, we must have come to this knowledge by a purely mental process or perception. What that is, is DMP! If you know there is a future, then it came through DMP.

Before DMP is apparent by self-discovery, we experience hunches, insights, precognition and similar phenomena which reflect(s) one form of bias; conversely, training and schooling in logic and reasoning and philosophy-related experience, might ascribe to DMP the reasoning processes necessary to handle abstract thought. Either view or input is constructive to an understanding of FUTURLOGICS and DMP. If an open mind is maintained, these inputs will be unavoidable with an open definition, but this should not affect the study of FUTURLOGICS. Diversity of this nature should enhance the learning effect, when principles of FUTURLOGICS are discussed with others, who look both at the concept of the future and the future itself with interest.

No matter what DMP means to the reader, the general concept is a tool in studying the future. The minimum limits however for a working definition, is that the future or the temporal environment can only be mentally considered or perceived. DMP offers a quick reference to such demands upon higher thought processes (metacognition.) DMP is also the intuitive process of hunches and insights that bode of the future. Finally, it is a shortened description of all the means of learning exclusive of the five senses.

Seeing is believing, but what we believe directs our eyes toward what we see. Without DMP we would not learn even with the five senses.

As we study the six modes/models of FUTURLOGICS, we shall see how nicely the three modes that relate to the time continuum equate to DIRECT MENTAL PROCESS namely past, present, future; and how appropriate the other three modes relate to DIRECT MIND PERCEPTION because of the principles of intelligence they represent namely imagination, assumption/waiting, creativity. This form of parallel thought streaming in DMP become(s) foundation(s) to the holistic mind. DMP is plural and singular at once.

5. Which Adam God Core Ideas are recommended for self-study?

ANSWER:

Adam was Michael who was chosen in the pre-existent counsels and was a spirit personage. A PERSON with a body was needed to do the work for and in behalf of Michael to start the Human Race; this PERSON is MICHAEL a SENIOR MICHAEL WHO does proxy work for Junior Michael Who, will at some point later inherit this mantle. This substitution is referred to as "Eternal Proxy Subrogation." This vicarious work by regents is the basis of the thesis in The Adam God Theory by the author james n. hall © 1986 STP latest printing 2014. FUTURLOGICS (thinking system) is used here to research the ideas that explain THE ADAM GOD THEORY .

Definition of a REGENT?

  • If you do work for the dead in a Latter Day Saint Temple you are a regent for the dead. If you are baptized for the dead, you are not baptized again for yourself but you act as a regent for and in behalf of the person who is dead.
  • If a king turns his kingdom over to a prince who is a minor and too young to rule, a regent or regents are set to manage the kingdom until the young prince grows in majority and experience to be the king indeed.

Alma 12:33-34 33 But God{The Father as Regent} did call on men, in the name of his Son, (this being the plan of redemption which was laid) saying: If ye will repent and harden not your hearts, then will I have mercy upon you, through mine Only Begotten Son; 34 Therefore, whosoever repenteth, and hardeneth not his heart, he shall have claim on mercy through mine Only Begotten Son, unto a remission of his sins; and these shall enter into my rest.

Psalms 110:1 1 A Psalm of David. The LORD {The Father as Regent} said unto my Lord{The Son}, Sit thou at my right hand {be the Prince on the throne}, until I {The Regent} make thine enemies thy footstool.

Ether 3:6-21 6 And it came to pass that when the brother of Jared had said these words, behold, the Lord{Regent for spirit of Jesus} stretched forth his hand and touched the stones one by one with his finger.

And the veil was taken from off the eyes of the brother of Jared, and he saw the finger of the Lord{Regent for spirit of Jesus}; and it was as the finger of a man, like unto flesh and blood; and the brother of Jared fell down before the Lord{Regent for spirit of Jesus}, for he was struck with fear.

7 And the Lord{Regent for spirit of Jesus} saw that the brother of Jared had fallen to the earth; and the Lord{Regent for spirit of Jesus} said unto him: Arise, why hast thou fallen?

8 And he saith unto the Lord{Regent for spirit of Jesus}: I saw the finger of the Lord{Regent for spirit of Jesus}, and I feared lest he should smite me; for I knew not that the Lord{Regent for spirit of Jesus} had flesh and blood.

9 And the Lord{Regent for spirit of Jesus} said unto him: Because of thy faith thou hast seen that I shall take upon me flesh and blood; and never has man come before me with such exceeding faith as thou hast; for were it not so ye could not have seen my finger.

    Sawest thou more than this?

10 And he answered: Nay; Lord, show thyself{Regent for spirit of Jesus} unto me.

11 And the Lord{Regent for spirit of Jesus} said unto him: Believest thou the words which I shall speak?

12 And he answered: Yea, Lord, I know that thou{Regent for spirit of Jesus} speakest the truth, for thou art a God{Regent for spirit of Jesus} of truth, and canst not lie.

13 And when he had said these words, behold, the Lord{Regent for spirit of Jesus} showed himself unto him, and said: Because thou knowest these things ye are redeemed from the fall; therefore ye are brought back into my presence; therefore I show myself{Regent for spirit of Jesus} unto you.

14 Behold, I{Father as Regent} am he{Son} who was prepared from the foundation of the world to redeem my people.

    Behold, I{Regent} am Jesus Christ{The Son}.

I{Regent} am the Father and the Son.

In me{Son} shall all mankind have life, and that eternally, even they who shall believe on my name; and they shall become my sons and my daughters.

15 And never have I{Father as Regent} showed myself unto man whom I{Father as Regent} have created, for never has man believed in me as thou hast.

Seest thou that ye are created after mine own image{Father as Regent}?

Yea, even all men were created in the beginning after mine own image{Father as Regent}.

16 Behold, this body{Father as Regent}, which ye now behold, is the body of my spirit; and man have I{Father as Regent} created after the body of my spirit; and even as I{Regent} appear unto thee to be in the spirit will I{The Son} appear unto my people in the flesh.

17 And now, as I, Moroni, said I could not make a full account of these things which are written{full account may disclose Regency Proxy Work} therefore it sufficeth me to say that Jesus showed himself unto this man in the spirit, even after the manner and in the likeness of the same body even as he{The Son} showed himself unto the Nephites.

18 And he ministered unto him even as he ministered unto the Nephites; and all this, that this man might know that he was God{Father as Regent}, because of the many great works which the Lord had showed unto him.

19 And because of the knowledge of this man he could not be kept from beholding within the veil; and he saw the finger of {Regent of}Jesus, which, when he saw, he fell with fear; for he knew that it was the finger of the Lord{Father as Regent}; and he had faith no longer, for he knew, nothing doubting.

20 Wherefore, having this perfect knowledge of God{Father as Regent for His Son}, he could not be kept from within the veil; therefore he saw Jesus; and he did minister unto him.

21 And it came to pass that the Lord said unto the brother of Jared: Behold, thou shalt not suffer these things which ye have seen and heard to go forth unto the world, until the time cometh that I shall glorify my name in the flesh; wherefore, ye shall treasure up the things which ye have seen and heard, and show it to no man.

29 But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares(LATERS), ye root up also the wheat(SOONERS) with them.

30 Let both(SOONERS and LATERS) grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares(LATERS), and bind them(LATERS) in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat(SOONERS) into my barn.

    OR

Matthew 13:24-30 (With the point of view of those who dispute Brigham Young's teaching)

24 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed(LATERS) in his field:

25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares(SOONERS) among the wheat(LATERS), and went his way.

26 But when the blade(LATERS) was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares(SOONERS) also.

27 So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed(LATERS) in thy field?

from whence then hath it tares(SOONERS)?

28 He said unto them, An enemy hath done this.

The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them(SOONERS) up?

29 But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares(SOONERS), ye root up also the wheat(LATERS) with them.

30 Let both(LATERS and SOONERS) grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares(SOONERS), and bind them(SOONERS) in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat(LATERS) into my barn.

COMMON ELEMENT IN BOTH VERSIONS OF THE PARABLE:

30 Let both(LATERS and SOONERS) grow together until the harvest:

SOLUTION BEFORE THE HARVEST IS THE FOLLOWING FORMULA:

From the perspective of "the Council of the Eternal God of all other gods before this world was," Our Father is a Michael(Right Brain View), and at the same moment, From the perspective of this Earth only, Our Father is a member of the Eloheim, or is one of the Eloheim(Left Brain View.) Therefore Our God is both an Eloheim and a Michael at once(Holistic View.) Just as we can be a Father and a Son at the same moment.

    QUESTION:

-15. What is FUTURLOGICS © 1983 ? How does it help crack the code to the ADAM GOD thing?

    ANSWER:

SUMMARY EXCERPTS FROM ADAM GOD THEORY © 1986

NEXT IS AN EXCERPT FROM THE KING FOLLET DISCOURSE 1844 APRIL:

"In the first place, I wish to go back to the beginning-to the morn of creation. There is the starting point for us to look to, in order to understand and be fully acquainted with the mind, purposes and decrees of the Great Eloheim, who sits in yonder heavens as he did at the creation of the world. It is necessary for us to have an understanding of God himself in the beginning. If we start right, it is easy to go right all the time; but if we start wrong we may go wrong, and it will be a hard matter to get right.

There are but a very few beings in the world who understand rightly the character of God. The great majority of mankind do not comprehend anything, either that which is past, or that which is to come, as it respects their relationship to God. They do not know, neither do they understand the nature of that relationship; and consequently they know but little above the brute beast, or more than to eat, drink and sleep. This is all man knows about God and His existence, unless it is given by the inspiration of the Almighty.

If a man learns nothing more than to eat, drink and sleep, and does not comprehend any of the designs of God, the beast comprehends the same things. It eats, drinks, sleeps, and knows nothing more about God; yet it knows as much as we, unless we are able to comprehend by the inspiration of Almighty God. If men do not comprehend the character of God, they do not comprehend themselves. I want to go back to the beginning, and so lift your minds into more lofty spheres and a more exalted understanding than what the human mind generally aspires to." ~Joseph Smith Jr. 1844 King Follet Discourse.

    Key thinking points outlined:

    . . .

"As man now is, God once was:"

"As God now is, man may be."

"God Himself was once as we are now, and is an exalted man, and sits enthroned in yonder heavens!

    That is the great secret.

If the veil were rent today, and the great God who holds this world in its orbit, and who upholds all worlds and all things by His power, was to make Himself visible,-

I say, if you were to see Him today, you would see Him like a man in form-

    like yourselves in all the person, image, and very form as a man;

for Adam was created in the very fashion, image and likeness of God, and received instruction from, and walked, talked and conversed with Him, as one man talks and communes with another. . . ."

    ~ Joseph Smith Jr.

    "Thy mind, O man!

if thou wilt lead a soul unto salvation,

must stretch as high as the utmost heavens,

and the broad expanse of eternity-

    thou must commune with God."

    ~ Joseph Smith Jr.

So shall it be with my father:

he shall be called a prince over his posterity,

holding the keys of the patriarchal priesthood over the kingdom of God on earth,

even the Church of the Latter Day Saints,

and he shall sit in the general assembly of patriarchs,

even in council with the Ancient of Days when he shall sit and all the patriarchs with him

and shall enjoy his right and authority under the direction of the Ancient of Days.

    ~ Joseph Smith Jr.

My next sermon will be to both Saint and sinner. One thing has remained a mystery in this kingdom up to this day. It is in regard to the character of the well-beloved Son of God, upon which subject the Elders of Israel have conflicting views. I will tell you how it is. Our Father in Heaven begat all the spirits that ever were, or ever will be, upon this earth; and they were born spirits in the eternal world. Then the Lord by His power and wisdom organized the mortal tabernacle of man. We were made first spiritual, and afterwards temporal.

(Central point of the theory begins here!)

Page 51 Now hear it, O inhabitants of the earth, Jew and Gentile, Saint and sinner! When our father Adam came into the garden of Eden, he came into it with a celestial body, and brought Eve, one of his wives, with him. He helped to make and organize this world. He is MICHAEL, the Archangel, the ANCIENT OF DAYS! about whom holy men have written and spoken--HE is our FATHER and our GOD, and the only God with whom WE have to do. Every man upon the earth, professing Christians or non-professing, must hear it, and will know it sooner or later. I could tell you much more about this; but were I to tell you the whole truth, blasphemy would be nothing to it, in the estimation of the superstitious and over-righteous of mankind. However, I have told you the truth as far as I have gone.

It is true that the earth was organized by three distinct characters, namely, Eloheim, Yahovah, and Michael, these three forming a quorum, as in all heavenly bodies, and in organizing element, perfectly represented in the Deity, as Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

Treasure up these things in your hearts. In the Bible, you have read the things I have told you to-night; but you have not known what you did read. I have told you no more than you are conversant with; but what do the people in Christendom, with the Bible in their hands, know about this subject? Comparatively nothing. Another matter. We denounce that theory and hope that everyone will be cautioned against this and other kinds of false doctrine. October 1976 President Spencer W. Kimbal
